The Optimal Energy - 1470nm
As a water-specific laser, the VeinCure 1470 laser targets water as the chromophore to absorb the laser energy. Since vein structure is mostly water, it's theorized that the 1470 nm laser wavelength efficiently heats endothelial cells with a low risk of collateral damage, resulting in an optimal vein ablation.

The 1470nm laser energy is preferentially  absorbed in the intracellular water of the vein wall and in the water content of blood.The irreversible photo-thermal process induced by the laser energy results in a complete occlusion of the treated vein. The lower energy level needed using the radial laser fiber significantly minimized adverse effects compared with the bare laser fiber.

EVLT (Endovenous Laser Treatment) is a procedure leading to occlusion of varicose veins. It involves putting a optic into a saphenous vein through a catheter. Then the laser is turned on and slowly withdrawed from the vein. Endovenous means inside the vein, a small amount of local anaesthetic is injected into the skin over the vein and a needle inserted into it. A wire is passed through the needle and up the vein. The needle is removed and a catheter is passed over the wire, up the vein and the wire removed.
