1. What is Intravenous Laser?

Endovenous laser is a minimally invasive treatment for varicose veins that is far less invasive than traditional saphenous vein extraction and provides patients with a more desirable appearance due to less scarring. The principle of treatment is to use laser energy inside a vein (intravenous lumen) to destroy the already troubled blood vessel

2. How to perform endovenous laser therapy?
The endovenous laser treatment procedure can be performed in the clinic, the patient is fully awake during the procedure, and the doctor will monitor the condition of the blood vessels with ultrasound equipment. The doctor first injects a local anesthetic into the patient's thigh and creates an opening in the thigh that is slightly larger than the pinhole. Then, a fiber optic catheter is inserted from the wound into the vein. As it travels through the diseased vein, the fiber emits laser energy to cauterize the vein wall. FAQ

1. What is the procedure of the EVLT operation?

After your scan your leg will be cleaned before a tiny amount of anaesthetic is applied (using super fine needles).A catherer is inserted into the vein and the Endovenous Laser fibre is inserted.After this a cool anaesthetic is then applied around your vein to protect surrounding tissues.You will then be required to wear goggles before the laser machine is switched on.During the procedure the laser will be pulled back to seal the faulty vein.  Rarely will patients experience any discomfort when the laser is being used.

2.Is EVLT procedure painful? 

Some patients may experience temporary soreness or some slight swelling,  which can be treated effectively with over-the-counter, non-aspirin pain relievers and typically subsides within the first five days. The procedure is minimally invasive and requires no general anesthesia. 

3.Is Evlt dangerous? 

EVLT is safe and effective,2-4 especially in terms of faster recovery. 

4.How long after EVLT will I see results?

Within one week patients may start to notice a difference in the prominence of their varicose veins, but complete results may take weeks to months.
