What is PLDD (Laser Disc Decompression)?
Background and objective: Percutaneous laser disc decompression (PLDD) is a procedure in which herniated intervertebral discs are treated by reduction of intradiscal pressure through laser energy. This is introduced by a needle inserted into the nucleus pulposus under local anesthesia and fluoroscopic monitoring. The laser is based on the transformation of light energy into thermal, its advantages are given by having a minimal penetration in tissues, limited heat diffusion, allows the cutting, vaporization and coagulation of small vessels as well as minimal damage to adjacent parenchyma. In some cases it can be performed via Neuroendoscope.
In the procedure of percutaneous laser disc decompression, laser energy is transmitted through a thin optical fiber into the disc.
The aim of PLDD is to vaporize a small portion of the inner core. The ablation of a relatively small volume of the inner core results in an important reduction of intra-discal pressure, thus inducing reduction of disc herniation.
Tissue interaction with HOLA II DUAL 980
Dual Diode Laser Technology in Orthopedics and Pain Management -HOLA II in PLDD .TREIANGELASER HOLA II features an innovative design for safe, effective and flexible use in all surgical disciplines. The system provides a wide range of minimally invasive and micro-invasive solutions to broaden your therapeutic options. HOLA II offers innovative features such as a specific and effective absorption of its wavelenght (980nm )
The PLDD procedure offer a minimally invasive altemative for relieving back pain. The procedure kit enables microsurgery precision, tactile feedback from the fiber, quick recovery for the patient, and use of only local anesthesia. The laser special features include portbility, ease-of-use, no maintenance or running costs, high reliability and stability.
The HOLA II Laser System
The diode laser platform HOLA II DUAL is based on the excellent absorption characteristics of the wavelengths 980 nm . The combination of the two wavelengths enables a tissue interaction in both hemoglobin (980 nm) and water . Together with the moderate tissue penetration, a minimally invasive, safe and precise treatment in extremely delicate anatomic structures is guaranteed.
HOLA II 980 laser system can be used to treat dIntra-discal application on cervical spine
thoracic spine, lumbar spine
Medial branch neurotomy for facet joints
Lateral branch neurotomy for sacroiliac joints
